Pioneer Day: It's The Climb

I remember when I first moved to Utah and "Pioneer Day" came along... I honestly thought, this is kind of weird that Utah only celebrates this. But, with age comes wisdom and humbleness (most of the time) :).... and now I realize how important they were to finding and bringing to pass the home I enjoy and love. I am in awe of what they did... I mean they trekked half way across the world pulling handcarts !! I can barely walk to my mailbox in this heat !! I just want to thank them... for their sacrifice, and hope one day I can thank them in person. I am not a big Miley Cyrus fan... but I do like her new song, "The Climb". Every time I hear it, I think of the Pioneers, and the metaphoric mountains in my own life.... hopefully I can be as strong as them when I climb.. :)

I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"

Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going

And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on

'Cause there's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody's gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa

My Little Friend

I have been enjoying hanging with Baby Tessa two-three times a week when I watch her. She is turning into my little friend that I swim, eat, talk, chill, read, and play with. I wub her and am grateful that my sister shares her with me !! :)

Speaking Without Words

Just the other day before "So You Think You Can Dance" was going to tape.. I was thinking how there really hadn't been a dance this year that just wowed me yet. Kinda disappointed...And then the same night my favorite couple did an incredible dance. It gave me chills... and is a testament to art. The power that art has to speak without words... whether through a painting, dance, a sculpture... etc. Love it !! And I love Ade !! It made me think of one of my teacher friends at school that has breast cancer. She is amazing and so strong.. I admire that kinda strength and courage !! I love ya Paula Waula :)

A Sunday Tradition

Every Sunday... whether I go to church or not :) I listen to the following CD that I bought on a whim the year of Joseph Smith's Celebration. I absolutely love it.. and the songs and lyrics never get old. One of my favorites is "Modern Day Sampson". It is of course about Porter Rockwell.... and it is just awesome. The lyrics are as follows:

A Hawkins rifle strapped to his saddle
And two Dragoons inside his vest
His long black hair blew through midnight air
Fighting revenge inside his chest
He’d seen the housed burned down to ashes
And seen those he loved lose that most dear
The saints they cried, “someone save our lives!”
The night the black angel appeared

Hey now Porter, got an eye like an eagle
Sworn to save the life of the Prophet of the Lamb
Many men are lying under six feet of ground
Fire from the smokin’ gun of Modern Day Sam
Fire from the smokin’ gun of Modern Day Sam

The saint’s moved on as the fire grew strong
But some would never let them rest
Crystal eyes moved through shadowed nights
As he took the devils last breath
Promises from a Prophet’s lips
The Prophecy preserved his fate
But that June day his heart broke in vain
God forbid he was too late

Destroying angel, troubled man
I won’t judge the blood on your hands…

Hey now Porter, got an eye like an eagle
Sworn to save the life of the Prophet of the Lamb
Many men are lying under six feet of ground
Fire from the smokin’ gun of Modern Day Sam
Fire from the smokin’ gun of Modern Day Sam
